First off thanks to everyone for the help given us in constructing our Amsterdam itinerary. It is greatly appreciated.
We are independent travelers looking to see and do things at a leisurely pace always expecting to return some day. We will secure accommodations and make reservations for things that locals suggest are necessary. Having said that here is what our plans are for Amsterdam.
Arrive AMS Schiphol early afternoon, take train to Centraal Station and make the 10 minute trek to our apartment for the next 4 nights. After getting the keys and freshening up we will visit the Ons' Lieve Heer op Solder and purchase Museumkaarts for entry. Considering an evening canal cruise but will wait to see how we handle the overnight flight from the States, otherwise dinner and off to bed after exploring our neighborhood a bit.
Day 2 Anne Frank Huis 11:00 am entry tickets. Suggestions for lunch in the area and other interesting things to do. Walk the Jordaan and if time permits probably peruse De Wallen -- Dam Square and the Red Light District. Canal cruise if not done the night before.
Day 4 Considering train to Zaanse Schans. Best to go early?
Day 5 Early departure via train for Bruges.
There are 3 of us, Myself, my wife, and 17 yr. old daughter. I am a retired history teacher, my wife is an art major, and our daughter is well traveled and enjoys history and art as well as most things teenagers enjoy. Daughter did request a photo op at the Fault in Our Stars bench.
We do enjoy local dining, especially casual and street food options. Beer is definitely on the agenda but we will skip the Heineken experience. Fine dining is a rarity for us but never out of the question.
Best option for transport card? Or should we just pay as you go? Best place for local produce/staples for a 4 night stay in central Amsterdam area?
Thanks for any thoughts…
