Where to go for the best views of Florence?

Where to go for the best views of Florence at 8am? or 6-7pm?

I have a tour booked during the time of 10am to 5pm, with that said i was hoping to enjoy some views of the town in Florence and I was wondering if anything is open at 8am to climb for a view? Or 6-7pm with the view of the city?

Standard answer : Piazzale Michelangelo, for either. No need to pay to go up a tower. With your time restrictions, walking up there in the evening would be best. afaik, none of the towers etc. in the city will be open at 8am.

(If you have walking issues, or are just lazy, you can get a bus 12 or 13 from Santa Maria Novella station to the Piazzale). While you are up there, walk up the hill and look at the wonderful church of San Miniato al Monte.

I’ve always thought that the best views of the city were from where it’s citizens have viewed it for hundreds of years: it’s streets. In a city of a million details, seeking out a post-card ‘view’, especially at the expense of time walking those fascinating alleys, always seemed to me a little silly. Your mileage may vary.

I agree to an extent, but the OP did imply a 'panoramic' view and Piazzale Michelangelo is the best place for that. On my last visit I took loads of street views and 'fascinating alleys', but I also walked up to the Piazzale for that view as well. A ciascuno il suo.
