Pisa airpot to Florence late at night

Hi,

in a couple of weeks we are going to Pisa, our flight gets in at 23:15 and we need to go straight to Florence (due to booked plans early the next day) looking at the train times it’s a no go. buses seem a little irregular and the next one after our flight is 00:40am. wondering if you would recommend hanging around the airport until then? are there any other buses you can get expect for the scheduled ones? or would you pay for a private transfer?

Thanks

Unless you want to get a taxi, which will cost a lot of money (I have just looked and a pre-booked taxi will be about €150), you won't have much choice.

There is a café in arrivals, but I can't find out whether it will still be open.

As a girl on my own I would pay for a private transfer, no question.

Autostradale -- which runs buses from the Pisa airport to central Florence, has buses at 11:15 and 12:40 -- I gather specifically to take care of people flying in on late Ryanair flights.

It's frequently a good idea with small airports, such as those at Pisa and Florence, to check the airport website. They freqently are excellent sources of information about such things.

Would be VERY reluctant to rely on Autostradale at this late hour. Treat yourself. Book a car or get a taxi. Starting your adventure off with a frustrating transportation experience is just not a proper beginning. I know it seems awfully expensive, but it's just worth it. No worry, no hassle, no unpleasant experience with the unknown.

The advice to rent a car is wonderful except for two problems: first, you can't easily drive into Florence, especially in the dark; and second the agencies close at 10:30PM.

SavannahMame is right. There are times for being independent and not giving a fig, there are times for erring on the side of caution. On your own, female (as I am often in this country) late at night, somewhere a bit dodgy (which Pisa is, especially today) don't take risks, spend the money, get there safely, it's a no brainer.

Just to clarify - the OP is not a woman travelling alone. she says 'we are going....' and 'our flight'. I don't see why they can't take the Autostradale bus - it will be full of other arriving passengers. What I would recommend is getting a taxi from SMN to the accommodation. €170 is a lot of dosh!

I've taken the Autostradale bus and I've flown Ryanair.

I find the bus a whole lot more pleasant than Ryanair -- despite the fact that I am a firm believer in the Duchess of Westminster's observation about riding buses.

We just used the bus to get into Florence- we had a 2 hour delay on arrival

On here Somebody did say they buses operate until all the flights have arrived.

Maybe ask your hotel - they may offer an airport transfer or have a taxi service they suggest.

Ilkleygirl:

You say there was a "2 hour delay" -- was that for the plane or for the bus?

I know of no hotels in Florence that provide transport to or from the airport in Pisa -- does anybody else?
