Eating in Venice

I'm visiting Venice this coming weekend and I would like some suggestions on which places are best to eat Venetian cuisine...... I've heard it's hard to find!

Look at the Restaurants listed, you can get a good idea of what is on offer, and there are reviews,

They're not hard to find and on these boards it's plenty of posts about this topic. Just need to look at the previous threads.

Restaurant Poste Vecie dates back to 1500 and is the oldest restaurant in Venice.

One of my personal favourites, and my local restaurant, is Al Bacareto, in Calle delle Botteghe near Campo Santo Stefano. It has a menu of Venetian specialities (my own favourite is seppie in nero with polenta).

For good dining and wine I like agli Alboretti in Rio terra Antonio Foscarini which is the wide (by Venetian standards) street running down the left hand side of the Accademia. In the same area I like Cantinone Storico on the Fondamenta running along the Rio San Vio as a not too touristy trattoria.

There are lots of great restos in Venice. You need to do some due diligence as to what your expectations and budget are. I think Agli Alboretti is a true winner. I also think that something went south with Poste Vecie and it is far from its old self. Either there are new owners or the old owners stopped putting out, but we are pretty much done with it by now. We need to try Anne's new favorite ;)
