Car friendly Hotel Milan

I will be travelling to Milan On July 1st. We will drive up from Nice and would like to spend the night and most of the next day looking around Milan. I want to avoid city traffic as much as possible and would like to know that our rental car is safe.

Can anyone suggest a hotel which is easy to get to by car and has good public transport to the City centre?

We would consider a nearby village.

There will be 2 adults and a 7yo child.

Grazie

Assago is a southern suburb convenient for the Genoa-Milan motorway and metro into Milan (Green line 2, Milanofiori Forum/Nord, see current map on http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Metromilano.svg): Hotel Milanofiori has free parking - venere.com/hotels/…location - others in this area are Hotel Royal Garden and Holiday Inn.

The Hilton or Michelangelo at the Central station both have car parks and are quite easy to get to.
