Credit cards vs Cash

Hi all -

Wondering if most places accept credit cards, or if we will need cash for restaurants, shopping, incidentals? If so, are ATM's available in all villages?

Thanks ahead of time!

Yes, credit cards are readily acceptable. You should still have some cash on you for the few places or times where it is cash only, but not too much. You can google ATM locations for wherever you are planning going. You can also get local cash from a number of local banks using your credit card - again, google banks.

LOTS of places here in the villages actually do not take credit cards - including the ferry (cash only). Many that do take cards have a minimum, so ask before sitting down. Also, note that AMEX isn't accepted in the majority of restaurants and bars.

Should you ask at a bank for cash with a credit card, you will be directed to the bank's ATM.

That also includes debit cards like bancomat. They physically don't have a lettore POS for any sort of payments with cards of any sort. So, just confirm with the staff beforehand. Besides the ferry, this also includes some restaurants, bars, beach clubs and even a few hotels here still don't accept cards. Little by little, each year it is becoming more common, but we are still a little bit in the past here.
