Traveling from Verona to Athens and return to Urbino

Trying to find the best airport to travel in and out of from the Verona, Italy area to travel to Athens, Greece, and come back to Urbino, Italy. Looks like Bologna, Italy is mid point. Is there a train to both Verona and Urbino from Bologna to take? Suggestions? Will be traveling June 27 from Verona and returning July 7 to Urbino. Thank you!

Venice airport looks best, about 1.5 hours from Verona. There appear to be no direct flights from Verona itself nor Bologna to Athens. To reach Venice airport, take a train from Verona Porta Nuova to Venezia Mestre http://www.trenitalia.com/tcom-en then airport bus.

There are cheaper direct flights from Milan Airports, though these take longer to get to. Reach Bergamo airport by train to Brescia then bus, Malpensa airport by train to Milano Centrale then train to Malpensa Aeroporto.

For your return, Urbino has no train station. take trains to Pesaro then bus http://www.adriabus.eu/media/userfiles/files/ORARI%20ESTIVI%20EXTRAURBANI/46%20SPEEDY%20e%2046%20RAPIDA%20new%20(2).pdf

I appreciate your response. i have read the same, and thinking it would be nice to see Venice. It was also recommended that a ferry from Venice would be the least expensive by a local. Any ideas about a ferry? Not sure it would be worth the 30 plus hours, and how to get to Urbino on the way back.

If you wish to use ferries, that is an option, though they are probably more expensve than the cheapest flights and are very much more time-consuming. Ferries do not go to Athens - you go to Patras and take a bus from there. See a ferry agent, e.g. directferries.com/ferries_from_italy_to_gree… but book with your chosen ferry company direct.

If you wished to use ferries one way only, the return journey would be much better, as you could land at Ancona only 30 minutes from Pesaro by train, or at Bari 4.5 hours away from Pesaro by train but a much shorter ferry journey.
