Melanie, these questions are too broad and you've given us no information to work with.

What is your budget and how many are traveling together.

As for what you should do...well you need to get a guide book and read up on what might interest you while in Rome. A guide book will give you a description of the sites to help you decide what's important to you. It will list the main sites as well as the not so well known ones. Any of us can give you a list of what we think you should see but if you don't share the same interests then we're both wasting our time. If you come back with a list we can help you put them in a good working order for the little time you have in Rome.

Melanie Z

Welcome to Tripadvisor and the Rome forum.

You've come to the right place to research your upcoming trip to Rome. To help get you started, what I would suggest is to begin browsing through the FAQ section that the local Destination Experts (DEs) have put together - highlighting important and commonly asked questions about traveling to Rome.

Also, do take advantage the large volume of past questions and discussions about pretty much everything by using the Search Box at the top of this page. Whatever question you have, its probably been asked a few times in the past. So you can learn a lot about Rome by referencing these past discussion threads, first. Simply input whatever question you have about Rome in the Search Box near the top of this page and past discussion threads will appear.

This is probably the best way for you to use Tripadvisor to begin your research. Then, if you have unanswered questions or specifics that you can't find here, you can post and let the local DEs and other posters help you with.

To get you started on the 'what to see' while in Rome question. I can further suggest investing in the DK Eyewitness Travel Rome guidebook (or the similar DK Top Ten version) or another travel guidebook that you find more preferable. Also, spend some time looking at the Tripadvisor 'Things To Do' section in Rome for listed attractions. See links to get started.

Lastly, I'm sending you a travel list of Rome Classics (w/ reviews and pictures).

and a list of some of our favorite church visits in Rome (w/ reviews and pictures).

while there are many, many more things for you to research and think about before deciding what to do/see in Rome, hopefully these will help get you started.

Have fun researching your upcoming trip to Rome and hope you really enjoy your holiday.
