Parking Piazza Cavour

Unfortunately, I have to take the car into the capital tomorrow. Offhand, does anyone know if there's a parking lot close to Piazza Cavour? Thanks.

Have a look at this post:

roninrome.com/transportation/parking-in-rome

I gather from various articles that Piazza Cavour is a bit of a construction mess at the moment. You might want to park further away...

Thanks to you both, things looks a bit clearer now. It was a sudden panic on my part on the back of me saying (stupidly in retrospect) "I'll drive you into Rome if no one else can" and suddenly being taken up on the offer!!! (I should have remembered the old maxim, "never volunteer".) I'm dropping someone at a friend's place who lives nearby and although I haven't been there for maybe two years now, remember Piazza Cavour as being one helluva mess when I was last there.

Yeah, it's still a mess. In addition, the area around Cavour is surrounded by one-way streets. So I'd have my GPS or a good map (and navigator) ready!

One tip - DON'T cross any bridges over the Tiber from the Vatican area. If you do, you might find yourself driving directly into a ZTL area. There are no ZTL's in the Vatican/Prati area... just traffic. If you're not familiar with ZTL's, you might read this:

Good Luck!

Thanks, I'm familiar with the ZTLs and aware of the no-go areas. Now I just have to hope it's not foggy all the way to Orte on the A1 as the weather forecast was predicting!

ocpony, use of Tinyurl will help you post much shorter addresses

http://tinyurl.com

note the drag and drop to the toolbar function that will automatically give a tiny URL when you click on it with a page open. So much easier than those huge URLs

I thought I'd post a follow-up note as I often give advice to people and later wonder what happened to them. The parking was actually a synch. Being between the holidays, it was a busy-ish day for Italian tourists so most of the blue line spaces in the area (and there were many) were taken up but I found my way easily to the Gianicolo multi-storey carpark at the back of the Ospedale Bambini Gesu and parked there for a couple of hours. Sure, it was Euros 1.85 / hour but so convenient and felt safe too. There were two of us in the car and even taking into account the road toll (that has recently gone up and is now Euros 9.30 from Chiusi / Roma Nord) and the record high price for benzina (nudging Euros 1.80/litre in places) reckon it was cheaper and more comfortable than taking the train. I'd forgotten how beautiful Rome is and must get back there again soon!

I couldn't help but think of you, on opening the Rome website and finding a link to this on the front page...

Even Piazza Cavour's going to beautiful!

Yep, but they've got a helluva lot of work to do between now and the 24th January for it's nowhere near finished!
