A day and a half in Rome?

Hi again

We arrive in rome at 10.30am and will go straight to our hotel. What is the best way to get from the airport? Ive heard taxis can rip you off?!

We hope to have dropped off our belongings and be out and about by lunch time, we have a full day in rome the following day and then the day after we leave for Sorrento.

what is best to do with half day and what is best to do with the full day?

We are not overly fussed about the Vatican, so can give that a miss

Well, in my experience you will fit all of the following in - if you are fit and like to walk:

Spanish Steps

Trevi Fountain

Campo di Fiori

Vittorio Emanuale Building and Capitoline Hill

and all that is offered along the way.

Jump on google maps and work out what you think is "do-able" for you! Have fun.

You will get cabbies inside the terminal that will approach you. Ignore them and get a cabbie outside. I don't recall the rates but you should know what they are and ask what you will be charged before you get in the cab.

As for what to do in Rome in a day or so? Depends on where you are staying but I would suggest that you put on your comfy shoes and go through the many beautiful squares, see the trevi fountain, spanish steps, browse in the stores on Via Con Doti. It also depends on what you enjoy. The Rick Steves book is also very helpful. Have a look at what he recommends.
