Liberation day in Rome (April 25th)

I'll be in Rome only for a few days including April 25th which is Italy liberation day. I'm wondering what to expect as far as celebrations in the city but also will the touristic site be open on that day (Coliseum, Museum, Vatican, etc)

All the museums and archeological sites remain open. Even the Vatican Museums are open free of charge, because it's the last Sunday of the month, but avoid going then unless you enjoy crowds.

It's Sunday this year; only restaurants and tourist shops that are usually open on Sunday will be open.

If there's a celebration of any kind, I imagine it's a parade in the Via dei Fori Imperiali area.

The present government is not keen on this holiday, which is seen as a bit lefty, probably because it celebrates the partisans, many of whom were communists. They tend to tone down the celebrations, and announce them at the last minute.
