Couchette cabins on overnight train-locked??

(Might have asked this yesterday but can’t find it in the search function)

Do the overnight train compartments have a lock on? A friend has warned us about people coming into the cabin to try and steal things! Surely you have a lock on the door?!? I guess we’d keep valuables with us but I can’t risk people coming in the cabin at night with our kids there, they’d be scared to death! Can anyone tell me if cabins are secure please?

Alternatively is the ferry from Catania to Naples any safer?

Of course there's a lock on the door!

The normal lock can be opened from outside with a staff key, as you'd expect, but there'll also be a security lock or bolt which prevents this.

So no worries!

I always sleep with my daypack between my head and wall, clipped to something.
