I have read forums about similar subjects, but don't have all of the answers I need to plan our trip. I need advice for our trip as we can only visit during 14-21 in October and we will stay in an apartment that is within walking distance to train and boat as we do not wish to hire a car. We are travelling from Malpensa. I know it will be quieter and there will be less tourists which is great and I am aware that some places may be closed. We like smaller and quiet towns anyway.
My question is, will most of the shops and restaurants be closed in Baveno and Orta during that week? And if so, would it be a better idea to stay in Stresa or another interesting town? We are planning to fill our week with day trips to Borromean Islands and other places of interest around Lake Maggiore before heading to Lausanne. Any advice would be most appreciated.
