Does it look ok ?

Hi, my wife and I will be in Italy for 12 nights (July 8 to july 20). We would have take more time, but since we leave the kids with the grandparents for that trip we dont want to exagerate ! We know that july will be hot, but being french teacher (and school psychologist for my wife) doesn't leave us much choice.

We want to enjoy at different pace we would have done with the kids. We want to have good late meals, good wine, see museums, get to historic places ...al things we wouldn't have done with kids, or less done.

It will be our sixth trip in Europe, but the first time in Italy

We have figured and plan this :

5 nights in Rome (our flight arrive at 11:20 july 8). We have found an airbnb in Trastevere (http://fr.airbnb.ca/rooms/2265519) .

For Rome we have plan to : get over jetlag on the arrival day, monday see a bit of centro storico and do a food tour of trastevere (Twilight Trastevere with eating italy food tour), see the colesseum and forum on tuesday ( we have to buy advance tickets first monday of june I think). For wednesday and Tuesday, maybe Ostia antican and Vatican.

Fast train on friday to Florence

4 nights in Florence. Once again Airbnb (http://fr.airbnb.ca/rooms/7070194)

We dont have precise plan for Florence, but we probably do a daytrip to Siena

fast train to Venice (stop for 4-5 hours in Padova to see a friend)

3 nights Venice (http://fr.airbnb.ca/rooms/12013950).

No exact plan for Venice. Our flight home leave at 13:20 on july 20

Does that plan sound ok ?

For a first trip to Italy and wanting to hit the historical highlights of the main cities then you have done an excellent job of planning.

Have fun with your holiday planning.

good plan....just a note, we stayed in Venice for 4.5 days/5 nights May 2016 and could have lingered on....it's a very atmospheric destination and takes time to get used to and negotiate. You will want to get off the trodden tourist paths of San Marco and the Rialto to allow unstructured meandering in the neighborhoods of Cannaregio, Castello, Dorsoduro for example.... 3 nights will leave you only 2-2.5 days...you'll just catch your breath. So encourage you to consider having one more night for Venice and one less in Florence. And by all means, visit Siena! Easy 1.5 hr bus/train ride from Florence. Have a lovely time.

bonjour Patrick

This is a great plan. Having been there quite a few times I suggest:

Do not plan any tour or anything for day of arrival. And no need to spend money on a food tour in Rome, as the restaurants and food is so good, just read your travel guide book closely. Make sure you pre-book the Vatican Museum and Colloseum so that you cut the line (especially in the summer's 2 to 4 hour line ups.

Yes Sienna is beautiful but you need more time for Venice. What you could do is leave early in the morning and stop in Veronna on the way to Venice.

Also do not waste any time or money on the HOHO bus in both Rome and Florence as they are totally useless and you can walk everywhere.

Have a great trip.

I remember your German trip planning This will be something different!

Padova has some interesting sights, so I hope your friend is going to show you them! Or alternatively, since time in Venice is short, with just two full days, might your friend come to Venice instead?

Siena is magical, I'd say include it, with 3 full days in Florence, there's time for both.

Thanks to everyone for those answers !

1) Adding a night to Venice would be hard. The lodging we hve reserves is already booked the day before our arrival. and getting nice and not too expensive accomodation would be hard now,

2) Our train are reserved. We leave Florence at 7:54.

3) we will go to Siena, that why we have 4 nights in Florence.

4) Food tour seems to be real fun and give a good view of The neighborhood we are staying in (Trastevere). We gonna have 145 meals sample, it's expensive, but I guess it will be fun !

Lynda, yes I remember the help you give mfor our trip in Germany 2 years ago. you also me last summer too since we've been in Spain and Portugal. Yes it will be something else this year !

There is baggage storage [deposito baggali] at the Padova station. As I recall it's around the corner from the ticket office.
