My mum (late 40s) and myself (20) are going to Italy at the end of August. The end of our trip sees us spending 2 nights in Florence and 3 in Milan - more in Milan as we want to spend some time day tripping the lakes. We both would love to see Cinque Terre, but not sure about time. On the day that we would travel by train from Florence to Milan, is it worth leaving Florence early in the morning and heading to Cinque Terre for the day then departing (in the late afternoon/evening) from Cinque Terre to Milan instead of back to Florence? We will only be travelling with hand luggage so carting suitcases around is not an issue. I've seen that people do day trips to Cinque Terre return from Florence so essentially thinking along this line but heading straight to our next destination rather than backtracking to Florence. Thanks!
