Mainz, Wiesbaden, Darmstadt and Rüdesheim are going to be your closest. Limburg or Marburg might be the prettiest.

79 helpful votes Not much difference. Rüdesheim and Limburg are both a bit over an hour from Frankfurt by direct regional train. Limburg has a neat oldtown with half-timbered houses and an impressive cathedral. Rüdesheim is a winetown and THE tourist mekka by the Rhine. Both scenic, both worth a visit.

All of the churches in downtown Frankfurt have things going on each evening during Advent, but they haven't posted their schedules yet. Choirs, organ concerts, bell choirs, etc.
These would be at the Kaiserdom, the Alte Nikolai, the Liebfrauen Church, St. Katherina, Drei König, and the Deutsche Orden Kirche.
