Where to stay? Nice or Monaco?

My husband and I (early 40's) will be flying into Nice on June 7 and can't decide on where we should stay- Nice or Monaco. He wants to visit the casino in Monaco and have drinks there but beyond spending a few hours there sight seeing, not sure what else there is to do. We want to spend time strolling the shops and exploring as well as get some beach/sun time at a good beach that has restaurants or beach clubs. Any reccos on the best location to get the best of our 3 days there?

Nice is your best bet.

Vastly more to do / see there.

For a little bit more charm than Nice....you might look at Villefranche....a few kms east of Nice or Antibes..

Definitely Nice or somewhere nearby if you want a smaller place. Monaco wouldn't be high on my list even as a day trip.

Nice for sure. You can train to Monaco for a look and a drink, although I think there is a dress code in a casino.. not certain. But, Nice would be perfect.

Dress code is different for day and night.

Relatively casual during the day.

Passport is a must.

There is an entry fee.

Three hours in Monaco maximum. Rather poor beaches. Villefranche, Juan les Pins, Antibes or Cannes for good mix of free public beach and private concessions.

Nice is famously pebbles.

Dress code only for the main casino, and you also need your passport to get in that one. The other two, Hotel de Paris and Fairmont, you can dress how you like and only normal ID needed. The two casinos in Nice don't have a dress code.

Thanks All. I appreciate the feedback. Since Monaco will only take a few hours is it worth it to go to St Tropez? Also if I go to the casino in Monaco at night, are their trains or uber that we can get back to Nice easily and fairly inexpensively?

St. Tropez is great, but somewhat difficult to get to. With only a few days, I'd spend more time near Nice, perhaps adding in Antibes and Villefranche...
