Where to stay in Provence And Coast?

My husband and I are planning a trip to south of France in May. would appreciate any input on which town would be best for finding a great villa or B&B with beautiful views. Beauty scenery and proximity to good food and wine is key. We were thinking 3 nights in Provence and 2 nights in marseille or nice. Any advice is greatly appreciated! Thank you in advance.

Have you had a look at a good guidebook or two to get started? A map of Provence would also be helpful so that you will see just what a large region Provence is--and it includes both Marseille and Nice. Marseille is in the western of Provence, while Nice is in the east. There are many possibilities for good spots to stay, but only you can narrow those down based on personal preferences. Then we here can be of more help.

Your question can't really be answered.

It is far too broad and not at all thought out.

It is akin to asking "I want to visit North Carolina.....where should I stay?"

catullus is right......you need to do some basic research with a guidebook or two.

For instance, Marseille is IN Provence.

If you only have 5 nights pick Nice and the Cote d'Azur or western provence - you really cannot do both.

You will not need to hire a car if you opt for Nice but a car is essential for western provence.

I’m tired of people blindly recommending Nice as a base, with no thought as to the visitor.

Nice is not for everyone. It is a big congested urban city. There are tons of cute other quainter villages, midsize towns, coastal and inland, to choose from.

Op- please do an ounce of research and then we can better advise you.

If you’re looking for a quintessentially Provence experience, then stay in Bonnieux or somewhere in the luberon.

Closer to Nice, look at Aups or Cotignac in the Var.

Without car, take a look at Biot or haute Cagnes for a small perched village.

I'm with Doby....

It is very frustrating when an Original Poster, has a thought "maybe I should go to the South of France....that sounds nice."

And then does absolutely zero research on their own before posting a question here.

There is typically no way to even post a reasonable response outside of "Do some basic research."

Or do the unthinkable....read a guidebook.
