Good stop on coast between Dublin and Enniskillen

Seriously. I know this sounds crazy. Here's the deal. Fly in to Dublin 5:15 a.m. on a Sunday in early September. Do the HOHO in Dublin, stay overnight. Pick up the car at the airport about 8 am. Spend 3 hours at Bru na Boinne and keep going north.

We want to spend a bit of time in and near Glenarm but there's only one B&B there -- ancestors from Glenarm and Ahoghill. We'll likely stay 2 nights.

Option 1: 2 nights Glenarm w/ day trip to Giants Causeway. Glenarm to Enniskillen via Ballymena, Ahoghill, and Dungannon.

Option 2: 1 or 2 nights Glenarm and visit Giant's Causeway on the way to Enniskillen.

Option 3a and 3b: Either of the above, but only stopping in Glenarm and staying a little further north.

Option 4: Your better idea.

Airport to Glenarm without stops is about 3 hours (7 including Bru na Boinne and dinner). Glenarm to Enniskillen via Giant's Causeway is about 4 hours (again 7 including 2 at the Causeway and dinner). Glenarm to Enniskillen via Dungannon is about 3 hours.

Definitely hire a car and move around rather than doing day trips from Belfast.

The Waterfall walk is currently closed but I hope will be open at some stage over the summer. Not sure when you hope to be here. Daylight hours will also affect how much you can see.

Photographers also love the Dark hedges (although this is becoming very popular due to the Game of Thrones) and don't miss Dunluce Castle. Mussenden Temple is also photogenic with its clifftop setting.

How long you stay in each place is also highly weather-dependent in Ireland!!

Belfast is an interesting city so I would recommend you spend some time there even if your main aim is to get out and about.

One possible plan -

Sunday Belfast

Monday Belfast am, then early afternoon start Causeway Coastal route. Overnight Glens area - Cushendall or Ballycastle?

Tuesday - Continue Causeway Coastal area to Derry. Overnight Derry.

Wednesday - Derry and north Donegal - An Grianan Aileach/Doon Rock?/Glenveagh/Poisoned Glen area. Overnight around Dunlewey

Thursday - head to South Donegal - Slieve League cliffs etc. Overnight Donegal Town?

Friday - head to Dublin

That's just one option.

Meant to say the above option would suit for driving from Donegal to Dublin. Obviously you could spend some time on Friday morning in South Donegal so there is a little bit of room to maybe explore more of north Donegal on Thursday.
