6 Nations Rugby in Stratford

Hi

I'm coming up to Stratford from Kent this weekend specifically to meet an old friend who is driving down from Yorkshire. We are looking for a pub which would be relatively easy to get to from the Waterside Premier Inn with plenty of screens and atmosphere to watch the 6 Nations and then an Indian restuarant to finish the day

Any recommendations for both the pub to watch the rugby and the best Indian restaurant in town would be greatly appreciated

Assuming nobody with local knowledge gets in touch before this weekend,

You're best bet will be to use Sky Sports pub finder - this gives a decent indication of which pubs show sport generally. https://pubfinder.sky.com/ (even though it's obviously not on Sky).

Cross check them with BT Sports pubs:

Obviously there will be live football on this weekend, which some bars preference - there's also live FA Cup games on the BBC.

Contact pubs directly from the Sky finder and ask would be my suggestion.

You would be ok in a Wetherspoon's - look at link, should be a good option, good ale, reasonable prices. Plenty of places in and around town to get a curry afterwards 🙂

The Bear is our go to pub for watching sport in Stratford. It's not the biggest but it has a great range of beers and there's always a lively atmosphere when the rugby's on. http://thebearfreehouse.co.uk. As for curry there are a few to choose from. Hussain's or Usha are our current favourites in the town centre. Have a great weekend!

Tom, going by your post history - one has to wonder if you are on commission to promote "The Bear" ;)

I wish! With a 7 month old I rarely get to go in there anymore but it's my go to pub in Stratford if I do. Stratford doesn't have too many untied pubs selling local beers. The Bear is one of them and as a fan of a decent beer I'm happy to point people in their direction.

For the record, the One Elm and the Keys & Kitchen are two other good beer pubs in town I've always enjoyed in the past. I wasn't sure if they'd be showing the rugby though hence why I didn't mention them on this particular thread.

Thanks all. Ended up in the Rose and Crown. Good atmosphere in there, nice food and not a bad beer. Walked over to the giggling squid and had an excellent Thai meal and then into the Garrick for a couple more beers. A great Saturday.
