Planning a day trip to Lavenham & area.

Will also go to Long Melford/Kersey/Monks Eleigh

But are there any other places in the area worth visiting just to look around?

Well, there's Bury St Edmunds of course, but as you're living in Suffolk you may already have been there.

8 miles from Lavenham is the market town of Sudbury and Gainsborough House (46, Gainsborough Street). This is where the landscape painter, Thomas Gainsborough, was born.

There is a small museum that might be of interest.

Generally, an exhibition is running until 18th October that brings together the collections and great art of five museums, namely Christchurch Mansion; Moyse's Hall; the National Horseracing Museum; The Red House; and Gainsborough's House. The exhibition has been organised in order to celebrate their collections and the great art that has found a permanent home in Suffolk.

Edit: Another attractive village nearby is Clare - 13th century Augustinian Priory, a ruined castle and a country park.

Pamjo, Clare is a town -- not a village! It's also very pleasant.

Borley, nearby had the most haunted house in England

Cavendish and Hartest are pretty.

Polstead still attracts visitors for its Red Barn Murder story.

It's just about impossible to park in Borley these days - I understand that it is due to the over enthusiasm of some 'ghost hunters' who flock to the church due to supposed supernatural activity. The haunted house has long gone.

<<Pamjo, Clare is a town -- not a village!>>

Then it must have grown an awful lot since it won Best Suffolk Village 2010-2012!

It may have won village of the year but its still officially a town!! I suspect the size of the town allowed it to qualify for the village competition!
