Is it reasonably safe to leave luggage in the car for 3hrs?

Just wondering how risky it is to leave luggage in the car in Bath for a few hours during the day while passing through Bath? Not sure what the crime rate is like and whether it’s a huge risk.

Or is there a left luggage area that would give peace of mind? Thank you

When I hire a car anywhere I take all the insurance offered, when I park I would take my purse, cards, camera, passport etc with me, lock the car, and forget it.

I am not going to spoil my holiday worrying about someone else's (insured) car and my dirty clothes.

Thieves don't know that a suitcase contains only clothes; in fact, they're likely looking for electronics that may have been placed there - or anything at all that might be of even the smallest monetary value. People who break into cars are usually desperate for a drug fix and their single-minded desire to make that happen should never be underestimated. One of our vehicles recently received a smashed-in passenger's side window when a thief spotted his gym bag on the seat. I once had a convertible ragtop slashed so the thief could get at the 87 cents in change in my console.

If you park in a busy area during the day for 3 hours I think you'll be fine. A thief would have to be pretty brazen to lift suitcases out of cars in the above circumstances. Could it happen? Yes. Chances of it happening? Very little.

I think we need to know where you are planning to park, and whether the suitcases will be visible or not.

A quiet street in Twerton - it's possible they might be stolen.

In front of the Royal Crescent - very unlikely.
