We have not tickets, can we still picnic on the river

we are coming for the regatta, we have accomodation, but we have not tickets. We are also bring our nine month old grandson.

Can we still see the regatta and picnic on the riverbank?

Good luck getting anywhere near the river during regatta week - the place will be heaving.

Kings Meadow at caversham/Reading is a good alternative if you're not actually wanting the regatta - providing you can get out of the gridlock that will be Henley town centre.

Yes you can see the regatta for free. Most of the riverbank is open to public access, the regatta enclosure (which is ticketed) is a small section of the actual course (which is a mile and 550 yards long) at the finish. You could try heading along the towpath to Temple Island to see the start of the races - there is a large lawned area here where you may find space for a picnic, although the ground is quite wet at the moment and rain is forecast for most of this week. There will be plenty of food and drink stalls all the way along the course.

Be prepared for lots of traffic if you are staying outside Henley - the Henley rugby club may be the best place to park.
