Where can I purchase a 220v immersion heater for a single cup of tea? Are they readily available? Can you suggest some common chain stores that would routinely carry them?
Thank you!
Most hotels in London offer tea and coffee making facilities (ie a kettle with teabags and sachets of instant coffee!). You might like to check this out in the room description on the hotel's website, as you may not need an immersion heater.
if you are staying in a hotel, many rooms come with tea and coffee making facilities. are you looking for one for an apt?
wansteader,we must have been reading each other's mind!
I've never had much luck with immersion heaters. They're a bit fiddly and the two I've had have come with information that indicated they'd fuse if taken out of the cup before being unplugged.
If for some reason your hotel room doesn't have an electric kettle, you can buy one for less than a fiver at Argos. If you didn't want to keep it you could donate it to a charity shop.
I haven't seen one for ages in the UK - maybe they don't comply with safety standards now.
This is a US seller:

Argos and similar places also have travel kettles,

But the idea of a hotel in the UK not providing a kettle is anathema - you are more likely to find a kettle than an en-suite bathroom.
Did I miss a post where the OP said she was staying in an hotel and/or really wanted a kettle?
Not a chain store but theres one on Amazon .com http://tinyurl.com/3y6wc9u
Edited: 13 years agoIf the OP is asking about immersion heaters for purchase and use in the US (or elsewhere in the world excl UK) the question is on the wrong forum and the thread should be closed.
If asking about for use here (whether staying in a hotel or not) the advice above is correct - a SC apartment or hotel room will more likely than not have an electric kettle. If not a perfectly useful kettle can be bought for under ÂŁ10 (Tesco and Sainsbury's have a budget kettle for about ÂŁ5/6) which will be cheaper than the amazon link given.
If I'm not mistaken, I think I have seen them in Boots the chemist in their travel section, and possibly in some of the luggage shops on Queensway, the ones where tourists buy cheap bags to carry UK purchases home. I've seen them in WH Smith at Heathrow too (most recently at T3 a few weeks back) and although it's a pain to double back after arrivals to go upstairs to departures, at least the shop is still landside so you don't need a boarding card. The WH Smith shop is just before Security, to the left as you queue up to go through.
jdbri, the question was about an immersion heater 'for a cup of tea'. As a cup of tea is OhioTealady's ultimate objective it is logical enough to point out that most hotels provide a kettle. Not to do so would have been unhelpful and might have led to her making a purchase she did not need.
