Depends when you want to travel.

If you book far enough in advance you can get an advance ticket from Liverpool Lime Street to Southampton for £31 (single ticket for an adult). Journey takes about 4.5 hours.

Look on www.nationalrail.co.uk

Or you can get a National Express coach down there for £24 if you book in advance. But the jounrey takes about 9 hours!

If you're a family with children then start off by buying a Family Railcard which will give you a third off most rail fares.

The easiest train route is the one which doesn't go through London - change at either Birmingham or Stafford depending on the day of the week (it looks like it's Birmingham Monday to Saturday, Stafford on Sundays)
