Self-catering accommodation in Portsmouth

We'll be spending 5 days in Portsmouth next June.

It's been suggested that we stay in OLD PORTSMOUTH

Can anyone recommend a self-catering, one-bedroom apartment there (for two people)?

We like somewhere quiet but central to the attractions and with easy access to pub transport

Our budget is 100 pounds a night

Try looking at providers like country cottages and hoeseasons they usually have a lot listed for the area you are after.

Have you tried seaching on google? Old Portsmouth is a small area, also look out for rentals in gunwharf quays. Then post here the ones you like for more help. we also have a caravan site that let units.

But any of these areas will be good for you, Southsea/old-Portsmouth/Gunwharf-quays.

I've sourced two options via holiday lettings.co.uk

Both are in the same building in OLD PORTSMOUTH: One apartment is called "Marina Views" (1st floor) and one is called "Harbour Views" (2nd floor)

no reviews have been posted for either but they look pretty nice

I made contact with the owner, who quoted me about 680 pounds for five nights, which seems a bit expensive

what I found annoying though is that the "base price" is only 625 pounds (which is fair I guess for peak time) but then there are all these "add-ons" eg

Insurance 20 pounds

"Booking fee" 20 pounds

Towels 10 pounds a set

Plus a 50% dep is reqd upfront

I've never pd these "extras" before in any of the other bookings I've made and most of the time the dep has only been max 1/3

But I'll keep looking and maybe try and negotiate a better deal!

What do you guys think of "The Vulcan" at Gunwharf Quays?

there's a 2-bedroom place we can rent there for 600 pounds (all inclusive, no extras) for 5 days

The Vulcan in Gunwharf Quays is a great area for you to be based. Walking distance of the major places to visit.

Plently of bars & places to eat and things to do in the evening with out the need for taxis etc.

I would def stay here myself.

Thanks,

Do you think it's worth trying to negotiate with the owner of the two in OLD PORTSMOUTH or should I just go with The Vulcan?

(Not sure whether the Vulcan one has views?)

Well with the extras they are trying to charge you, I would rather sleep in the street. But its your choice,

Heres a google street view of Solent Views

maps.google.co.uk/maps…

Here where the Vulcan building is maybe a 6 min walk apart from solent views
