Thomas Hardy Country

We are meeting up with family in London and would like to drive to Thomas Hardy Country and do a day or two of hiking if the weather holds. We know very little of the area but would like to make this trip meaningful. Its for the third weekend in February. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hi there

Late February will see the weather still pretty cold although you never know - you might get a weekend of sunshine although it'll still be chilly so you'll need to wrap up warm if you want to go walking. Have you thought about where you'd like to stay for the couple of nights you'll be there? Would you be happy with a decent B & B or would you require a hotel?

Loads of lovely towns and villages in "Hardy Country" and some great sights to see. Maybe you'd be better off taking as look at a decent guide book, listing the sights/places, etc, that appeal to you, then coming back to the forum with some more specific questions.

Thank You. Cold is all right as long as its not wet. Would appreciate a recommendation on a B&B. I'll start a search for a guidebook. Any suggestions on that as well would be appreciated.

Hi again

Quite right - unfortunately, you can never guarantee the weather at any time in the UK. It's just as likely to be pouring with rain in August as it is sunny in February.

Hi

Somebody posted a query about a couple of companies that do guided and self-guided walking tours in Hardy Country a few weeks ago; why not take a look at their websites to see if this is the sort of thing you are after.

www.foottrails.co.uk

www.footscape.co.uk

That might save you a lot of nights of research/organising.

The area is beautiful and with luck you might be able to see the earlier Spring flowers.
