From Isle of Skye to North Wales - stop?

In September we will be visiting Scotland and Wales with a somewhat fixed schedule. Our last night in Skye will be a Saturday, so we will be traveling on Sunday. We need to get to North Wales by Monday. Does anyone have thoughts on an approach for this?

I've toyed with the idea of doing the 10 hours in one day or stopping someplace along the way. I have a lot of experience with longer travel times than this, so it would not be challenging beyond the mental drain of such an extended drive.

I'd also be ok with stopping someplace mid-way.

What I want to avoid is a situation where I leave on Sunday, drive to a mid-point, and not have done anything worthwhile that day. I'd want to either have a bunch of places to enjoy before stopping someplace just to sleep or getting someplace to stay somewhat quicker and having time to enjoy things at that location.

My initial ideas where to enjoy Oban and maybe an island like Staffa before staying in someplace like Luss for the night, or going directly to a place like Keswick and doing things in that area until the evening.

You don't have time to include Oban.

Best to head direct to The Lake District or perhaps Moffat for the night.

10 hours might be a bit optimistic. What are your actual start points and end points? I'd certainly want to break this journey somewhere if I was htinking of doing it. You say you're experienced with long drives, but is this experience in the UK?

A trip to Staffa takes most of the day from Oban.

The specific path is Portree to Conway. I have extensive experience with long, 12+ hour drives in the USA. I have also driven many hours in France, Spain, Germany, and Ireland. I understand each place had unique challenges, and I don't take the idea of a long drive anyplace, especially in a different country, lightly.

I like the idea of stopping in Keswick or someplace similar, though it appears to be around 7 hours for that leg.

If it's going to be done with only a "single" overnight stop, then Keswick is a sound choice; and a nice place.

And it's best to do the first 2/3 of the trip on day 1, with the final 1/3 on day 2 (especially as Keswick to Conway is where most of the traffic hassle & potential delays are more likely to occur)

That should have been Conwy, looks like chrome auto corrected it incorrectly. Thank you for the traffic advice, that sort of information is helpful to plan with.

Keswick is in the area that I would choose for a stop. And I'd definitely want a night's break on this drive. KWUK is spot on about the traffic being at it's worst in the north west of England. The last time I drove the M6 there it was a nightmare. So many big lorries, often nose to tail with the vehicles in front of them.

Where else will you have you been on your travels? No point in us suggesting Glasgow if you've already spent a week there.

Other than Skye, we will have been in Edinburgh and maybe Glencoe.

I travelled alone by car from Skye to Keswick and it was a loooooong journey! But it was very scenic! I stopped at Glencoe and Luss. If you want something memorable to 'do' in Keswick...go down to the lake and take the launch round Derwentwater. Bring food for the geese, swans and ducks. Wander through Hope park. Eat at Lingholme Gardens. Sooo much to do. Enjoy.

Rather than Keswick why not come off the M6 at Penrith and stay near Ullswater

Travelling to Keswick and returning to the M6 the following day will add considerably to your journey time

Ullswater and Glenridding are lovely places.
