accommodation

Hello - my family and I would like to take a trip up NORTH which includes Watson Lake and appreciate if anyone has any suggestions for accommodation and places to eat. And we are hoping to come in early June 2011 and hope to catch a view of the magical aurora borealis.

Much thanks!

Hi Joan;

The Northern Lights (aurora borealis) are an atmospheric phenomenon, and very hard to predict. Research has shown that the auroral activity is cyclic, and peaks about every 11 years. The next peak period is 2013.

While a more northern location will be of some help in seeing them, there is never any guarantee. Areas that are not subject to “light pollution” are the best.

The most often times to see the Aurora is from September to October and from March to April. Usually the best time of night (on clear nights) is midnight local time.

Best Regards

We would highly recommend staying at the cabins called Stampeder's Inn. Each cabin has one double and one single size bed. The owners are wonderful. The price includes a continental breakfast.

We also heard that "A Nice Hotel" (yes - that's the name) is a good place to stay.

Warning - don't be worried about the exterior looks of either of these places...they are great on the inside.

Have fun on your trip! :)
