Montreal in November (this weekend!)

Our trip is a few days away! Spending 4 days in Montreal this weekend with daughter. Were staying in Old Montreal. Suggestions on what to do and where to go? Important: her baby is due in March! She mentioned wanting to see the Botanical Gardens and to find great restaurants and shops. Not too extravagant. We would appreciate suggestions on what to see, tips on travel from the airport, travel around town (taxi, Uber, walk?), weather/what to pack, restaurants/cafes, and anything to make this last mother-daughter trip for a while fun and relaxing! Thanks.

Hi Donna-Easton,

Here are some suggestions:

- Old Montreal (Notre-Dame Basilica, Saint Paul Street) and Old Port.

- Mile End/Plateau(in Mile End I would suggest you to try the Fairmount Bagels).

- On Saint Catherine street you will find some shops.

- The Saint Joseph's Oratory is also very nice.

Museums:

- The Montreal Museum of Fine Arts.

- McCord Museum.

- Pointe-a-Calliere Museum.

It will be quiet cold and Dark. Here is the weather: https://www.theweathernetwork.com/ca/36-hour-weather-forecast/quebec/montreal?utm_source=Google&utm_medium=Voltron&utm_campaign=Voltron30&utm_content=&utm_term=%2Bweather%20%2Bmontreal&gclid=Cj0KCQiAlIXfBRCpARIsAKvManwDxlt1s3QYEs7TwbaAzg4rTVu5Eh3MV9AcxVqFIspZ9414rzP94xUaAhE9EALw_wcB

You can always use Taxi or Uber to go around the city, perhaps the public transport is also a good way of transport (bus and metro).

Have a wonderful trip!

To the great suggestions made by Petar I would add:

- Old Montreal: Marché Bonsecours where you can buy Quebec products such as clothes and jewellery and there is a Fashion museum in the basement

- Museum: Museum of Contemporary Art next to Place des Arts on Ste-Catherine Street

- Shopping: you might want to look into Montreal Underground which is basically this gigantic mall covering many blocks but inside where there will be no rain and also where you will find a free Barbie Exhibition

- Restaurant: there are many many in Montreal however if you want to have a view of the city, i would suggest Les Enfants Terribles which is on the 44th floor of Place Ville Marie

- Botanical Garden: absolutely a place to see and you will also get to see the Olympic Stadium across the street and there is nice museum in the same area called Chateau Dufresne.

Enjoy, Montreal is a beautiful city (and congratulations on the grand-child)

Botanical Gardens will be open 9am to 5pm Tuesday to Sunday (closed Mondays)

Old Montreal, the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts, Jean-Talon farmers' market, are popular destinations..

here is a link to Lonely Planet online guidebook to Montreal, that has many suggestions:

Thank you for all the suggestions! One more question: do you recommend taxi or Uber from airport to Old Montreal? I’ve read about problems with Uber drivers. Is there still a problem with safety and overcharging?

Hi Donna-Easton,

I would recommend you to use a taxi from the airport to Old Montreal.
