september weather and road tour

We are planning on driving from Virginia United States to Kingston CA in September.

We would like to see Quebec City, Montreal, Toronto and Niagara Falls. We plan to stay 7 days and was wondering if we should use Kingston as our home base and do day trips to the other cities.

We also was wondering what the temperature in September in these cites range.

This is a lot in seven days. You cannot use Kingston as a base and do day trips. These places are too far apart.

Take a look at Google maps to estimate the driving distance between these cities.

The weather is great in September around 60-70 during the day, sunny and not humid, probably the best month to visit Ontario and Quebec.

To get to Toronto or Montreal from Kingston will be a 3 hour drive, you cannot possibly do them as day trips you will have to spend at least one night in either city.

And Kingston to Québec City is 540 km (±350 mi), 5h30 drive is you do not hit any traffic/road work. Best would be to start in Québec City and work your way westward, finishing in Niagara Falls/Niagara-on-the-Lake.

Yes you could do a kind of loop by going to Qc from Virginia, then Montreal, then Kingston, then Toronto and then Niagara Falls. But in 7 days driving all the way from and to Virginia you can see that you will spend more time just driving than visiting. I would plan a minimum of 10 days for that if not 2 full weeks.

It would be better to choose to do half of it one time and the other half another. Like the Province of Québec once and Ontario the next time. If you are staying in Kingston because you have a lodging deal then you could do day tours to Mtl, and Toronto, even though it will make for some long driving day. You could even add Ottawa that is about 2 hours from Kingston but, definetely Québec city and Niagara-Falls will be too far.

Thanks so much for all the info.

We have discussed and think maybe it would be best to just visit Quebec City and spend most of our time there.

We could then visit Niagara Falls another time.

Do you know of any good places to stay in Quebec that maybe would be

close enough to walk to most of the sights?
