Montreal / Toronto 4 day weekend Trip Report

Montreal (First Day): Landed in Trudeau Airport around mid-day and took 747 bus into city. Next proceeded to walk around Old Montreal / River front area. Enjoyed beautiful interior of Notre Dame Cathedral. Then took Metro to Olympic Park Area, went up in Tower, did tour of Olympic Stadium, and visited the Biodome. After walked around Plateau neighborood. For dinner ate at Au Pied de Cochon, sampling the Poutine with Foie Gras (and brown ale).

Montreal (Second Day): First, the Hop-on, Hop-off tour (first time ever in a city), stopping at St. Joseph's Oratory and Mont-Royal Park, taking in the view at the Chalet. Bus tour also included nice views of Biosphere, Casino, McGill, and others. Next off to Central Station for 4.75 hour train ride to Toronto. Got into Toronto around 9pm. Had a quick poutine dinner at Smokes then off to a club in Toronto's entertainment district.

Toronto (First Day): Started walking North essentially, visiting City Hall, Eaton Center, Ontario Parliament Building, U. of Toronto, and Queens Park. Did Tour of Casa Loma. Then over to Yorkville for a quick stroll before heading to Chinatown (for lunch) and walk through Kensington Market for some counter-culture. Next walked along the lakefront, eventually passing by St. Lawrence Market and a quick stop at the Old Distillery. More Poutine for dinner.

Toronto (Second Day): Started morning by going to Hockey Hall of Fame, then visited the CN tower and did the Edgewalk experience! That was quite a thrill and perfectly clear skies! Then took subway to Pearson for a late afternoon flight back to NYC.

Happy to answer any questions about logistics or sites. Was fun trip, but unseasonably cold for late September.

Talk about a drive-by visit! You covered a lot of territory for just 4 days. AND you took in the edgewalk, now that's an extraordinary adventure.

Yes, it was surprisingly cold; weather has truly been all over the map, I heard they had snow yesterday in Montreal. Go figure.

Glad you enjoyed yourself. Next time...give it an extra day!

That sounds like an amazing long weekend, you certainly covered a lot of ground........ no doubt the walking helped to burn off the caloric intake from all of the delicious poutine you ate :)............how was the Edgewalk?

I've been visiting Toronto for about 35 years and I don't think that I've ever packed that much into two days! Wow! AND, I have yet to do the edge walk. Good for you! Glad you enjoyed that wonderful city.

Thanks all for the replies. I enjoyed the city and felt the itinerary worked out well. BTW, I bought a TTC day pass which I used extensively for the subway, bus, and streetcars which made getting around quite seamless (and usually scenic).

Edgewalk was pretty amazing. I was generally comfortable leading up to the walk, and was put fully at ease on seeing the professionalism and organization of the program. That said, it is pretty hair-raising leaning over the edge for the first time--especially with a stiff cool wind blowing by. Supposedly, only a couple people have backed out (out of thousands) -- meaning its not *that* frightening. :) I thought it was a fair value at the price. I believe the total tower experience is around $40, so the incremental cost of the Edgewalk (which includes the total tour) isn't too bad (It's not exactly just any other tower either).

Got the poutine from a place called 'Smokes'. As I understand, it's well-regarded, as poutineries go. It's a fast food joint with a handful of locations around Toronto. Doesn't quite compare to the foie gras version I had in Montreal, but not bad for about a third of the price. Definitely recommend the pulled pork and bacon cheeseburger varieties (which are two of their top-sellers I was told).
