Can anyone tell me when in the season there is a high abundance of stable flies on Pelee Island spring, summer, fall-- what months?
Are they bad on both sides of the island?
I believe the season starts mid summer, but you never know since it's agricultural area around, wet weather tends to bring even more of them out. Stable flies breed in rotting hay, grasses and straw, your best bet is always call in advanced to check.
Also, at the entrance of the park there is always a sign with information regarding how high the insect biting is.
If you wear the proper clothing, you will have an amazing time, it is beautiful!
I have a cottage on the south side of Pelee Island and the flies are never really bad, they tend to be much worse on the east side of the island year round. I do tend to notice where I am they get a little annoying right after it rains.
