Lakeside getaway ontario

We are unable to travel too far from Toronto because of medical issues.

We live in Toronto so harbourfront is known.

Previously we travelled to Fort Lauderdale.

Can anyone suggest an area that has nice restaurants, where we can people watch and walk near lake.

Won’t be swimming but blue water would be a bonus.

Thanks

Is this for day trips, or weekends, or week long getaways, or ... ? Would you be driving to these places or dependent on another form of transport? Are you looking for a resort? And how far is too far?

Off the top of my head:

Cobourg & Port Hope in Northumberland County

Peterborough & the Kawarthas - many small communities on the various Kawartha area lakes.

Perhaps something on the south shore of Lake Simcoe

Prince Edward County would be a possibility, although in the summer it's difficult to get a one night stay - many places require a two night minimum. Check the B&B's in Picton.

+1 for Blue Mountain and Collingwood. It's easy to get to Wasaga Beach from here as well.

Cobourg has a lovely beach. It’s a very historic town.

Rice Lake - large, good fishing & boating. Closest communities are Peterborough, Cobourg & Port Hope. Check out Elmhirst's - probably the best resort on the lake... and there aren't that many.
