Craft beer recommendations

Hi, we are in Victoria for a couple more nights and wondered where you would suggest as good places to get craft beer? Tonight we went to Canoe - liked the beer but the food was pretty average. Any other suggestions much appreciated (maximum 20-30 minute walk from the inner harbour preferably). Thank you.

You'd need a water taxi in order to get there in 20-25 minutes, but Spinnaker's is one of Canada's oldest brewpubs, and I believe their food is better than Canoe, from what I remember. I'll be making the same trip again soon, so I'd be curious to hear your comparison between the two if you do go.

Be warned; I’m a lager/pilsner guy so….

Been in here a few times, as a destination on a walk around the harbour. Great view, good grub and worth the effort to get there.

I’ve had a couple of lunches here and was happy.

Not a brew pub but a good selection of local crafts, good food, good vibe with entertainment.

Third vote for Spinnakers.

From the inner harbour, it's easy to reach on a Victoria Harbour Ferry water taxi -

Just ask the operator to let you off at Songhees dock and stroll up the path.

A couple others that aren't brew pubs, but have lots of local beers on tap (with good food of course):

- Garricks Head (Pubby food)

- Heron Rock Bistro (They have Nightwatch Coffee Lager from Lighthouse Brewery in Victoria... My favourite beer! I think they have about 7 locals brews on tap. Fancier food than a pub.)

- The Guild Freehouse

There are several restaurants in downtown Victoria with several craft beers on tap. Too many to mention here.

Churchill's would be one... same as Garrick's Head mentioned above. Irish Times is owned by the same company that own's Bard and Banker.

The Guild is a decent choice.

You can also go to a few of the local breweries such as Phillips which is just north of downtown.

I keep hoping Phillips will build a kitchen. Good folks, good beer. Hoyne too.

Thanks everyone. Tonight we ended up at Garrick’s - good food and great beer. Thanks to @NWAdventureGirl I tried the Nightwatch Coffee Lager and loved it. Will report back on tomorrow’s adventure!

Im so happy you liked Garricks! It's one of our faves for a quick bite and some good beer. I'd go ahead and recommend Moon Under Water as well. I'm not necessarily a big beer gal but my friend is a complete snob with beer and whiskey and finds these places fantastic. LOL. If you just want a hoppy crowd pleaser spend your eveing at Lure with one of the most beautiful views in Victoria and order a 7% Fat Tug. Cheers!
