New State Police Facility

To help address the increasing security problems in the area, the State government has opened a new base in Tulum. This will be staffed with 50 officers equipped with vests, helmets, uniforms, weapons, radio communication equipment and seven patrol cars, as well as its

Like many local police forces, the local one has not been very effective so hopefully this will bring needed security to Tulum.

The presence is greatly appreciated!

Drove by the building today and to say it is still under construction and the paint looked wet, is an understatement. However, the bodies and equipment are in town and that's what matters.

"to say it is still under construction and the paint looked wet, is an understatement." Cozumel has the opposite problem. The facility is completed, the vehicles and men available but due to some ongoing dispute with the mayor and the State, everything sits idle. But not unusual , the mayor seems to have a dispute with everyone!

Robert,

From what I've been able to deduce from this forum Cozumel doesn't have the same security issues as the mainland, correct?

An island off the waters of any country kinda has its own symmetrical type of different ways of being tied To a particular country that they are close to. Cozumel is one of those. Many have said throughout the years, that "Mexico is just a boat ride away from here." The reason I am still here is that Cozumel still proudly retains the peace and tranquilidad of a once was awesome time, before what now we must now deal with.

Thanks, Chris.

My wife & I are coming to Coz for the first time in November. We plan to explore the island a bit, so it's nice to hear how laid back it is.

Bruce, Chris said it all very well. No worries coming to Cozumel. Apparently the state government is putting new police facilities in a number of places but for different reasons. Whilw Tulum does need it for additional security, in the case of Cozumel it is just an assist to the island Police Department.
