Should we stay in Krabi or Phi Phi? - November 2018

Hi-

Has anyone stayed in Krabi and taken the ferry over to Phi Phi and then booked a private longtail for the day? Wondering if by the time you get over to Phi Phi around noon due to the ferry schedule if all the longtails are booked and the popular spots (Maya Bay, Bamboo Island, etc.) are filled with tourists and it's not worth it or if it's the opposite and because we'd be starting later everyone would be leaving since the tours only stay in once place for so long? Maybe it wouldn't be so bad?

Or would we be better off just spending a couple days in Phi Phi instead of staying in Krabi? (We're already staying in Phuket for 5 days but I'm not sure I can travel all the way to Thailand and NOT see the Phi Phi Islands.) All ideas/suggestions would be helpful. Thanks!

Stay a night or two in Phi Phi and take early morning long tail boat you can beat the regular crowed coming from Krabi or Phuket as part of day tours

You won't see Maya Bay or Bamboo island when they are quiet, unless you stay on Phi Phi and go early morning or late afternoon, after the speedboat tourists from the mainland have gone

Maya Bay will be closed from June to September to let the corals and nature recover from the massive damage caused by the tourists. As of next season park authorities are considering to limit the number of daily visitors to Maya Bay. Most likely once the daily quota is reached, you no longer will be able to purchase a park entrance ticket. They did not yet communicate, how they are going to control it. Daily visitors sometimes reach up to 6000 people and it is considered to limit it to 2500 a day.
