North Andros places to stay?

Hello internet lovers of the Bahamas,

We are planning a trip to North Andros in late January 2015. We have narrowed it down to a few places, Small Hope, Love at First Sight, and the Summer Wind rental house. Any thoughts on which is best? We are avid outdoors people looking for relaxing ,beaches, blue holes, Bahamas Orioles, snorkeling, some diving, some bone-fishing, bird-watching, swimming, eco-tourism, guided boat tours, drinking, good local folks and food. Are we in the right place on Andros? Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks and Cheers,

John

For maximum enjoyment of the outdoors on North Andros, I would go a few months later. There will be cold fronts coming through once or twice in late January. A cold front has one really nice day ahead of it when the wind clocks to the south then west. After that is a really cold day or 2 with winds from the N to NE, and the winds are often strong. After that, the wind goes back to the East with moderating temperatures (mid 70's in January). If you have 2 fronts come through the week that you're there, you won't be happy. By late March, the weather will be much better. While I haven't stayed there myself, I've heard that Small Hope is a great place to stay.

None of the places you mentioned are actually in North Andros, they are in Central Andros, about 30-40 miles south. Where exactly in Andros do you want to be?

Not sure what you mean by them not being in "North Andros". They have addresses located on "North Andros". If you mean that they're not at the north end of Andros, because they're closer geographically to the middle of the island chain, then that's different. I think the OP is looking for what they've listed that their interested in doing, not that they want to be in an exact geographic area.

SWFlack. Andros Island is divided into 4 geographical regions, North, Central, Mangrove Cay and South Andros. With North and Central Andros being the only parts that can be accessed one to the other via road. Each is serviced by their own airport. San Andros which is the airport that serves the North is at least a $75 taxi ride from Small Hope Bay etc. Whilst Andros Town (which serves Central Andros) is about $25. That is why it is necessary to be sure that the OP really wants to go to Central Andros rather than North. All that the OP is looking for for their vacation is available in both North and Central Andros. Of the places named only Love at First Site is in the North Andros district and is equidistant between both airports.

Thanks for the clarification. We've only looked at Andros from the water. Looking at it from the airport point of view is obviously much better when planning a vacation.
