It's not strawberry season right now. In the spring, we've found strawberries in the Grend Bahama grocery stores for prices comparable to Florida. I would have expected to find banana, mango, papaya, cantalope and watermelon, but I would not expect to find kiwis (not a common fruit) or blueberries (not in season). Last week we bought an English cucumber grown in Lucaya at Maxwells in the Abacos for the same price we would pay for one at Publix in Florida. Apples are similar in price to Florida where apples are much more expensive (and not as good) as they are in the northern areas of the US where apples are grown For the most part, the fruits and vegetables in the grocery stores in the Bahamas are expensive, and are not very good quality. Part of the quality problem could be that no one is buying them at the price they charge, and they sit until they go bad. There are some farms here and there, but their produce is usually bought up pretty quickly by local residents and restaurants. For anyone cooking at a vacation home, the frozen vegetables are the same quality and close to the same price as the US.
