Snorkelling & Accomodation

We are thinking of going in early may and wondered about rainfall?

We love Snorkelling and would like to stay near the best beach if possible.

Which is the best small resort without too many families hopefully.

Thanks

May is a great time of the year to go. It's just before rainy season.

I noticed you posted this on the Carriacou forum, are you looking to stay in Carriacou or in Grenada?

In Carriacou, the good snorkeling is at Sandy Island which can be reached by water taxi. Closest point to water taxi over is on Paradise Beach, also one of the prettiest beaches in Carriacou. Not really any resorts to speak of in Carriacou.

If you meant in Grenada, Laluna has pretty good snorkeling in front and it is a boutique hotel. Maca Bana are individual cottages set hilltop and there is supposed to be good snorkeling in front of the Aquarium restaurant down at the beach. However the water tends to be wavy every time we've tried to snorkel over there when we are on the island. There is good snorkeling in front of the Rex Grenadian which is on the other end of the same beach. Both Laluna and Maca Bana caters to couples rather than families.

Another option is Coral Cove Cottages in the Lance Aux Epines neighborhood. There is a jetty there where you can snorkel from. These are self-catering accommodations and you will need a car to get around to restaurants. Also don't expect posh accommodations as these are good, basic cottages.

Keep in mind that the snorkeling is not going to be as good as other islands that are more well-known for great snorkeling (ie. St. John, Caymans, Bonaire, Turks & Caicos, and the like). Compared to those, it will be marginal at best, in my opinion as an avid snorkeler.

If you are thinking of Carriacou, there arent any resorts, however, there are two hotels Grand View Hotel and Hotel Laurena. Weather-wise it should be great. If in Grenada, another good snorkelling option to add to Pigsterz's suggestions is Flamingo Bay - one of the best snorkeling sites.

We stayed on Carriacou in a villa named "Goyaba" It had a private beach with decent snorkelling and it was definately private.
