Can you review our itinerary?

My husband and I are going to St. Kitts and Nevis for our honeymoon in November. Dates are: Nov. 23 - 30.

We are staying at Timothy Beach Resort in St. Kitts from Nov. 23 - 26, then Montpelier Plantation on Nevis from Nov. 26 - 30. We are looking for a mix of relaxation and fun, and local activities to do and we love exploring new restaurants / bars that have a local feel. Here's what I've planned so far. Please let me know if we should switch around the order of things or if it makes sense to do certain things together since they're close by. I'm not familiar with the lay of the land. We aren't planning on getting a rental car on St. Kitts, but we are thinking we will on Nevis.

1. Re: Can you review our itinerary?

Interesting Itinerary.

Consider the following suggestions:

ON ST. KITTS -

1) Flyboarding is at Cockleshell Beach (near Reggae Beach Bar) so you may as well do it when you are there on Sunday rather than making another trip down there on Monday - it's a 20 minute drive from where you are staying.

2) If you flyboard on Sunday then on Monday, you can then visit the Batik Factory & Gardens at Romney Manor, stop to view the petroglyphs, explore the Fortress at Brimstone Hill and still have plenty of time for lunch at Serendipity. You might even have time to go ziplining.

3) Keep in mind Cockleshell beach is a 20 minute drive from Timothy Beach Hotel and a taxi will cost you$22 each way (plus tip) and you'll spend $25 to $30 each way get to Brimstone Hill (or a total of about $60 if you also visit the Batik Factory as I suggested. You can rent a car for around $45 to $50/day so you might to rent a car on St. Kitts. If you do rent a car consider taking it over to Nevis on the Seabridge Car Ferry (instead of turning it in and renting a second car on Nevis - just make sure the rental company you use allows you to use the car ferry. Or, rent from Thrifty (aka TDC) - they have offices on both St. Kitts & Nevis - you'll get the benefit of the "weekly discount" and get a car on St. Kitts and a different one when you get to Nevis (you'll take the regular passenger ferry between islands).

ON NEVIS -

1) Stay flexible with plans to hike to the top of Nevis Peak. If the mountain is shrouded in clouds it's not worth hiking as you won't be able to see anything when you get to the top. So see what the weather is like in the morning and adjust your daily schedule accordingly.

2) You have a full day (Friday) "exploring Pinney's Beach - there's really not much to "explore" - it's a 3/4 mile long stretch of beach between the Four Seasons Resort and the old Pinney's Beach Hotel at the northern edge of Charlestown. The only things on the beach are the 4 Beach Bars (that you mentioned in you original post), sand and palm trees. Of course if you want to spend the entire day on the beach Pinney's is a great place to do it. I mention this only because you are also planning to spend the entire day on Thursday at Montpelier's beach (which is about a mile or so up the coast.) and or their pool. You might want to spend only a half day (say the morning) at Pinney's, then go to your (planned) lunch at Gallipot and in the afternoon drive around the island and explore some of the old Sugar Plantation ruins (New River, Lime Kiln, Eden Brown Estate), the ruins of Fort Hamilton and perhaps hike to Nelson's Lookout atop Saddle Hill. Afterwards stop for a cool drink at either Golden Rock Inn or Nisbet Plantation and then maybe tour the Botanical Gardens (just down the road from Montpelier).

Have fun!

2. Re: Can you review our itinerary?

I have stayed and dined at Four Seasons and may suggest skipping dinner at this resort and dining at Banana's instead. The FS formal dining room is quite beautiful and food is decent however dinner at Banana's would be more memorable IMO; More of a local feel with absolutely outstanding food, service and atmosphere.

Just a note on Pinney's beach bars : much more fun mid afternoon until sunset.

Thank you both for your input. Really appreciate the detailed feedback.

Two quick questions -

What would you suggest for us to do on Monday evening in St. Kitts - is there anything we should consider since it looks like we'll have some free time.

Do you recommend a particular tour guide for the hike up to Mt. Nevis?

Thank you!

The Concierge at the Four Seasons has a list of all the hiking guides - they will gladly set it up for you.

I think, especially for a honeymoon, you might want to build in just a more time little time doing absolutely nothing. Lime on the beach or at your resort, or just do something spontaneous. An itinerary is a lovely thing, but sometimes needs to be just put away to let you have a chance to just soak up the experience and the good island vibes.

Views from the peak are rarely breathtaking. If the clouds do part it is usually only for a few seconds. The real joy of the hike is the personal challenge and trek through the rainforest. If you are really fortunate and it is a perfectly clear day ask your guide to take you just another 5 or 10 minutes past what everybody calls 'the peak'. This spot is the 'real peak' (only a few feet higher) and gives you stunning views over St Kitts south east peninsular and right down the Atlantic side of St Kitts. Once again Caribsurf is spot on with the advice. Most people set out very early for the hike in the mistaken belief that it is cooler. The shrouded tunnel you climb through changes very little in temperature through the day. The later you leave the climb, the greater the chance of a cloudless peak. The guide my guests always use is Iggy (+1) 869 665 7101.

Personally I would always choose 4S over Mount Nevis for dinner. The formal Coral Grill at 4S has been very good but they may struggle since their head chef left. 4S Mangos restaurant has the most romantic setting on the island and is now run by a new manager that has a great track record. I am pretty sure this season it will be the 'go to' place.

Your Friday evening spent on Pinney's beach is a great plan! Lime have a live band Friday night so I would probably have dinner at Sunshines then stroll across to Lime for the entertainment. If Green House are playing you are in for a real treat. It is fronted by a local musician called Jazzique who tours worldwide each year with Mishka and has recorded albums at Matthew McConaughey's studio in Malibu

I am visiting Nevis in March and appreciate the recommendations from Caribsurfer. i wonder if someone on their honeymoon should kick back relax and savor the moment. Before long you will wonder where all your free time has gone.
