Nisbet Plantation Club vs Hamilton Condos

Hi,

We are a family of 4 who visited St Kitts back in 2015 (We stayed at a 3 bedroom condo at the Marriott property), and took the car ferry over and spent a day touring Nevis. We are considering going back and staying in Nevis this time. I have looked at the Cliffdweller units, Hamilton Beach Condos, and the Nisbet Plantation. Our priority is great beach and proximity to restaurants (we would have a rental car, but walking distance is always a plus). Is Nisbet being on the Atlantic side typically rough waters, and is the beach swimmable there? If not, we would probably not consider staying there. Any advice would be great.

Best,

Pete

The Hamilton Condos are on Pinney's Beach and it has the Yachtsman Grill on the property. There are several other restaurants in close proximity to either drive or walk to but driving would be best after dark.

There are many places to dine in Nevis. Nisbet's has their beachfront restaurant for casual dining and the main dining room at the great house for a more formal atmosphere. There is dining at the other plantation inns also such as Golden Rock,The Hermitage, Mount Nevis Hotel and Montpelier. There are many more places to eat on the island.

The beach at Nisbet is quite nice with lots of Palm Trees and it has the lights colored sand on the island but water there can be wavy since it is on the Atlantic side. Sometimes seas conditions are so wavy there is beach erosion which can expose rocks near the shore line and makes getting into and out of the water difficult. When those conditions are prevalent you can walk about 200 yards north to Herbet's Beach where you'll find much calmer waters.

As far as condos are concerned the Condos at Cliffdwellers are the nicest on the island but there is only a very small beach on the property. Hamilton Condos are on a nicer stretch of beach but the interiors of many of the units there are still unfinished. Nelson Springs condos (the same stretch of beach as Hamilton - they are only about 500 years apart) are the oldest of the three and, quite frankly, recently there have been some "management issues" which have resulted in less than stellar maintenance and the exteriors of the buildings are showing their age.

As others have posted out, while there are some dining options on the properties or near all three condo as well as Nisbet - no matter where you stay you'll really need transportation to get to most of the more frequented dining venues. For what it is worth, nothing on Nevis is more than a 15 to 20 minute drive from any other place on Nevis and most restaurants are less than a 10 minute drive from the places you are considering.

Thank you so much for your response. It sounds like Nisbet, or the Cliffdwellers could be a safer bet than Hamilton or Nelsons Beach condos. Do you know how far other beaches are to the Cliffdweller units?

Tamarind Cove Beach (not the best on the island) is right next door to the south. Other beaches to the south are: Cades Bay Beach, where Chrishi Beach Bar/Restaurant/Beach Club is located, is less than a 5 minute walk from Cliffdwellers (1 minute by car). That "beach" stretches southward for about a mile (toward the southern end you'll find Nelson Springs condos and Hamilton Condos - less than 5 minutes if you drive to the beach access points near there. Paradise Beach is the next beach south and about a 6 minute drive. The main section of Pinney's Beach (where you'll find Sunshine's, Lime, Turtle Time, Weekend's and Double Deuce Beach Bars) is about a 7 minute drive. Gallows Bay is in Charlestown about 12 minutes by car from Cliffdwellers. And Black Sand Cove, the furthest Beach to the south is about 15 minutes away.

Going to the North, Oualie Beach is a 3 minute drive, Lover's Beach is a 4 minute drive, Nisbet Beach about 6 minutes and Herbert's Beach is about 7 or 8 minutes by car. Another minute or two further up you'll find Camps Beachand Long Haul Bay.

Windward Beach, the furthest away (to the northeast), is about a 15 minute drive.

As I said earlier, nothing on Nevis is very far from any other place on Nevis.

Another point is Hamilton seem to have trouble in responding to enquiries. I have tried twice via their website and not had a reply yet!
