Yellow Bird cottage, Oualie beach

If you're looking to stay in beautiful and private place for your Nevis holiday then please take a look at Yellow Bird cottage.

My wife and I are on holiday here right now and enjoying everything about it. The cottage is lovely and spacious for two people. It has a small swimming pool and decks on three sides that offer secluded sunbathing. It's located in a large mature garden and the cottage is slightly elevated from the small road that is all that separates you from Oualie beach.

Other posts have commented that traffic can be noisy but quite honestly there aren't that many cars anywhere on the island let alone passing the cottage.

The view across the bay to St Kitts from the terrace is breathtaking and getting befriended by little finches, who just want to be fed some brown sugar, or the occasional visit from the Green monkeys who keep their distance but are so sweet, all makes for a magical experience.

Yellow Bird is easy walking distance to Oualie beach resort but you need transport to get to any shops or other restaurants. Hire a car or take a cab if you want as both are easy, but please try using the local buses. It's great fun, cheap and really easy to do. Just stand outside and wave down any minivan with a green H or HA registration plate and jump aboard with the locals. Pay your 3.5 EC dollars and go all the way to Charlestown. It's just as easy coming back. Just hail the bus in Charlestown and shout to the driver where you want him to stop. Oh, don't forget to say good morning / afternoon to the other passengers when you board the bus. They appreciate the greeting.

Over the past 9 years, we have stayed at Yellow Bird, for the first two. Our first experience was wonderful in a naive sort of way...a completely, lovely, ,"nest" for two people seeking privacy and secluded pool just outside. We overlooked some tired (but clean) furniture, linens and fixtures, loved the quick access to Oualie Beach, the gardens and the morning visits of monkeys. For the price and genuine hospitality, the owner and manager can't be faulted. However, we have since, on subsequent and admittedly much longer stays, have found better equipped accomodation and better prices. Much will depend on one's schedule, length of stay and the time of year...plus a great deal of research...to truly enjoy Yellow Bird (there is another, larger Yellow Bird on the other side of the island, by the way). For a relatively modest budget, for Nevis, Gina (the owner) and her manager, will not disappoint.

Viceroy, what villas would you recommend for a longer stay? My husband and I are thinking of coming to the island for the three weeks between Thanksgiving and Christmas. We'd like to stay on the leeward side of the island.
