Mahoe Bay - Rent Car or Taxi?

If we stay at Mahoe Bay, is a car necessary or will a taxi suffice? We plan on leaving the villa several times for dinner and maybe 1 or 2 days to explore other beaches. Are there any lunch spots that are walking distance?

Nothing really within walking distance of Mahoe Bay. Rent a car - you'll be glad you did. Keep in mind that if you rely on taxi's you'll have to always call in advance for one to come and pick you up as you won't find any taxis "just waiting around for fares" at Mahoe Bay - it's a residential area. Beside, with a rental car you'll be free to come/go as you please. FYI - you can rent a car for under $60US/day - well worth it.

We rented from Mahogany and it was $50 per day for a small jeep. They were excellent and I would highly recommend them.

Make sure you speak with your villa rental person and/or company and find out if they have any arrangements with any of the car companies on Virgin Gorda. We rented from Mahogany less than a month ago and, like always, they gave us the Guavaberry discount : a Grande Vitara Deluxe, which is about as highend a vehicle as there is on the island for rent, for $360.00 a week. Their service, as saffie11 noted, is as good as any I have had anywhere in the world. Vehicle was like new in outstanding condition.
