Location Recommendation

Hi All,

I know there have been a lot of postings asking where people should stay but hopefully you can answer one more as everything is so spread out.

What we are looking for:

Great Beach

Close to nightlife (walking distance)

Cost effective but nice and clean unit for 2 people...husband and wife.

I'm guessing we should stay on the Dutch side for the nightlife andtake day trips to Grand Case and Orient for the beaches but is there a beach on the Dutch side that is calm, clear, with white sand?

Your feedback is greatly appreciated.

Seems like everyone has their favorite place.

Mine is Orient Bay/Beach

Also look into the Flamingo. Right next door to the Pelican complex and they share the same great beach. Close to night life with a casino next door at the Pelican. The even numbered studios are right on the beach with a good restarant (Toppers) on the beach. We like it better than the Pelican/Pelican Residences.

The Residences is worth the extra money. The rooms are perfect but with the Resort you could land up with a room facing a parking lot or behind the Residences where there is no view. All the rooms at The Residences have a beautiful view. Many of the rooms at the "resort" are dated and chances are you could receive a musty smelling room as many have complained about.

Being that you are not a timeshare owner of a specific room and would land up with whatever they give you, you could land up with a room that is not worth the money you would be paying.

Flamingo is a nice suggestion as well or even La Vista would be good. They are what I would call "homey" and comfortable. The Residences is new and more like the top of the line group.

I would not refer to the studios at Flamingo as being 'homey'. They have all been resently remodeled and updated with pillow top beds, 500 count sheets, flat screen TV's with DVD new furnishings and much more. Residences are nice but lack the beach up front.

Actually homey to me means "with warmth and quite cozy" and not derrogative...sorry if I misled some people. The residences are not "homey" and are more like a condo complex whereas Flamingo is like "coming home".

Hi we just returned from St Maarten and you sound just like us, what we were looking for. We stayed at Azure Beach Studios choose either Suite 1 or the Garden Suite there site is on trip advisor under specialty lodging. Our vacation was perfect could walk along the beach to the night life, close to little market , right on the best beach and a great place to stay.

I agree with Nikki - We also stayed at the Azure Beach Studios - Feb. 13-21 and absolutely loved it! Right on the beach - can walk to town - the studios are all you need!

I actually just emailed Mike and we'll be planning another stay this fall!

Good luck and enjoy your vacation (wherever you stay)!
