Castries for the day is there a beach too?

Hello we have a cruise port stop in Castries the cruise excursions are very expensive to sights outside the town so we may stay in Castries for the day however Im unsure What there is to see/do in the town searches have not really come up with anything apart from the obvious shopping & restaurants . Are there any unusual things to see / do? any museums? walking distance. Also is there a nice beach to visit for a short while with nice clean sea ?

Or can anyone recommend a tour guide who is reasonably priced?

Hi,

There is very little near the Cruise Port. You can walk or take 5 min taxi to the nearest beach, Vigie which is reasonably nice with some facilities. I haven't been there recently so perhaps others can chip in. Or you can take a taxi to Rodney Bay (cUSD 30 per car each way) where you have Reduit Beach, Splash Island Water Park, Access to watersport activities, shops, bars and restaurants.

For a tour guide try Kurt of Island Man, well reviewed on here. www.islandmantaxi.com. There are others

As Steve mentioned above you can hire a guide for part of a day, which will cost you around $200 (well worth the expense) and then you can go exploring to the south. You can stop and see the picturesque Marigot Bay, travel down to the Soufriere area, see the iconic Pitons, and do some activities. Makes for a jam packed, adventurous day, likely a big highlight with lots of photo opportunities for your entire cruise.

There is little in Castries proper. It's very much a working city.

The Castries Craft and Food market is well worth a visit - right across from the port, large semi-open air building with red/orange roof. Maybe Derek Walcott Square, and the Cathedral...Otherwise, it's mainly a working city, congested, etc.

Vigie Beach is lovely, 20-30 minute walk or 5-10 minute cab ride. Small boardwalk with restaurants and bars, chairs/loungers, massage, clean restrooms, etc.

ok thanks for the replies It will be a special day for Us as we will Celebrate our First wedding Anniversary so i think I will look at booking a private tour and guide, any other Recommendations for Guides? and where what is a must see? (not interested in the Zip line or anything too strenuous)

Check out "Kendal's Taxi Services" on Facebook or "Visit Saint Lucia" page on Facebook ....they can provide you with a reasonable price and also provide ideas on what you can do in Castries

Must-see in St Lucia is Soufriere with the Pitons, volcano and mud baths, botanical gardens and waterfalls. Many tour ootions, including those through your ship.

Expect to pay around $200 for the day for transport plus entrance fees to go private, plus any food and drink.. Some tour operators are around $75 pp including food and drink, entrance fees, etc. Cosol's offers an excellent tour, Spencer Ambrose offers a great tour, etc.

thanks Ive contacted a tour guide with good reviews on here who does private tours , however the Spencer Ambrose shared tours also look good. Only thing putting me off one of those is that it says a Minimum of 10 people must book so I dont want it cancelling if not enough book
