Really? Yes! And that is a nice feature of resorts with that policy. You don't need to carry around cash. At our Sandals vacations we have locked the wallet in the safe for the whole week. Unless you use the spa, or you go off resort, there is no need to have cash with you.

The only people at Sandals you can tip is the spa staff and the butlers, if you have a butler level room. Others cannot accept tips and can be fired for doing so.

There are numerous threads on this topic where this is discussed at length. They are easy to find.

Yes really. This is not just something they say to be nice. Its actually a resort policy that everyone should respect the same way they would any other resort policy such as no pets or no smoking in restaurants. This policy is in place for the benefit of both the guests and the staff. All gratuities and tips are already included in the purchase price you pay at sandals.

Just to add further....all staff participate in a profit sharing program which includes a gratuity bonus based on a percentage of booked sales. This program ensures that all staff...from front line (bartenders/wait staff etc) to behind the scenes (gardeners/maintenance etc) receive a fair gratuity...rather than just those who would normally be front and center to guests.

Bruce C: Really. But you are obligated to tip the shuttle drivers who will bring you to and from the airport to your resort AND the red cap luggage porters who handle your luggage and on arrival and departure. None of these individuals are Sandals employees and deserve appropriate gratuity for their services. Every now and again you read a post or Sandals review from someone who comes unglued at Sandals when they discover these individuals expect to be compensated through a guest gratuity.

We are a couple booked to go to Sandals Grande Riviera Ocho Rios, Jamaica in Feb 2014, a long way off I know, but was wondering if anyone has any advice regarding tipping. We are staying in one of the villes with a butler/concierge and have been told conflicting advice about tipping. Are told in one hand that all staff employed by Sandals, which I would've thought included the butlers & housekeeping staff, are not to be tipped as this gratuity is included in the price you pay for the holiday. If it is the norm to tip however, how much is considered appropriate as we wouldn't want to offend with too little but don't want to be taken advantage of by giving too much. Also if we do tip, is it best to use local currency, US dollars or GBP as we are going from the UK?
