Does it rain a lot end of August/early September?

Hi all,

My wife and I will be in Punta Cana area from aug 27 until Sep 5. We know that this is the hurricane season in the area and were wondering if we should expect a lot of rain? I am seeing other travelers say that it is a good time to travel but I am finding articles and "experts" saying that these month should be avoided. Thoughts?

Thank you,

SV

We are going aug 24- sept 6. Have done it the past 2 years without any problems. An Occassional shower may occur but they never last long. We have traveled April - September and it's never been an issue. Our favorite time is these dates as the crowds have usually lightened up!

It may rain every day, it's the tropics. Doesn't ruin your tan. Bring sunscreen.

I have travelled in Jan, Feb, Mar, Apr, May, June, August, Sept, Oct, & Dec.... sometimes it's rained and sometimes it hasn't ... (including 5 days straight in Feb.) there is NO way to predict the weather and nothing you can do about it... the way I see it is you're already wet from the ocean or pool so stay put and enjoy it.

If you use wunderground.com, there a tab at the bottom of the page for historical data. You can research what the weather was like for your destination on any day for previous years. Just enter the dates of travel, enter 2012, 2011 etc. and you can see what the weather was like. Of course no guarantees as to what this year will be like.
