Thanks for the input I'm not a big drinker but I was very disappointed with drinks at the last resort we stayed at in Puerto Plata...

Have stayed at the Iberostar Bavaro and the family section at The Level @ Melia Caribe Tropical.

I liked both.

Pros of Iberostar (Bavaro)

pool entertainment was great

beach entertainment was so fun

beach paella party

we had junior suite which was large and lovely

drinks were fine

kids pool was great if you have little ones (only available at the Bavaro)

really nice golf course

Only 3 a la carte per stay

I would stay at the Bavaro over the Punta Cana if you have the option/the budget The buffet was much much better and the rooms are larger and nicer.

The Level

exclusive pool and restaurant which was great

zipline course

unlimited a la carte but no reservations so could be long lines if you go later

27 hole golf course if all 3 9s are open

no reservations for dinner

2 restaurants on site not included

I would likely stay at the Level over the standard area. The main pool was PACKED and very hard to find a chair when we went down there to check it out. We did not return to the main pool at all after our 1 attempt.

So the point. Consider the upgrade for either complex. Overall it is worth it.

Now Larimar is a decent resort no towel cards, decent drinks and food, service is nice, good entertainment and on a very nice part of Bavaro beach. It also has a very nice mix of families, couples, and not rowdy at night.
