I go to Cuba in 3 weeks for the first time! I'm staying at be live experience varadero all inclusive.

In regards to money I'm traveling from the UK, where do I get my money exchanged?

I'm planning on doing excursions with my boyfriend too is it expensive? I'm thinking Havana a few other trips and then eating out a few times so we're not just in the hotel! I'm unsure about how much money to exchange!

Thanks x

First of all have a read of my Inside Page on Currency and Credit Cards at this link and take note of the care needed when exchanging currency:

There is a Cadeca at Varadero airport where you could exchange some money to start you off. I am not familiar with your hotel so I have no idea whether it has a Cadeca or just a front desk exchange. Hopefully someone who has stayed there will respond and also help you as to where the closest Bank, Cadeca or ATM is located.

Check out Norm-Lily's reply # 5 at this link for the location of banks in Varadero:

If you have a rep at your hotel and you book your excursions with them then you can probably use your bank cards to pay, although there will probably be a charge. We did this as it saved us exchanging too much cash, although we were able to exchange back to Sterling at the airport.

If your considering the overnight trip to Havana it is fairly pricey at around £450.00 for 2 of us,from memory the Catamaran trip to Playo Blanco was in the region of £150.00 and the jeep safari fairly similar.

If you just want a day trip to Havana you can organize one privately pretty easily with a cab driver last year we went for 150 CUC. about a 100 pounds for you.

You can also get a cab back and forth to Havana, about 100 cuc each way, and stay overnight in a casa for about 30 cuc, and just wander around on your, which Havana is well suited for

if you're in downtown Varadero calle 33 the bank is there on the beach side

or you can get quick cash at the airport or hotel, but the exchange is lower you can book your day trips at the travel desk at your hotel, I would venture out on my own to Havana.
